404 Not Found

I'd just read Professor Gian-Carlo Rota's "10 Things You Learn from an MIT Education" to see if there was anything there I could learn. Answer: Probably not. And then read his "Ten lessons I should have been taught (PDF) " where I struck paydirt. His words about getting older got to me. So I followed the http://www-math.mit.edu/~rota link to his site and I got this 404 Not Found message. Then I backtracked to Professor Yan's site http://www.math.tamu.edu/~cyan/Rota.html where I noticed the second year listed after his name: Gian-Carlo Rota, 1932-1999. That hit me like lead baloon right in my chest. Although there are people maintaining Prof. Rota's writings, he is no longer maintaining them. He is 404 Not Found. It was a poinent post-script to the lesson he had given me only moments earlier.
