Let me explain the universe to you.

In 1977 I was just short of seven.

I can remember standing in front of our tract house

explaining the extreme boundries of the universe to a girl:

"Firstly you go up into the sky and then there is no air. That's space.

Then you keep going for a long time until you get past the stars.

Then there is a brick wall.

On the other side of the brick wall it's just white light. That's called "the whites".

There's nothing past that."

In the subsequent years I've learned some things about the universe.

Boy, was I wrong.

Man, how could I have been so wrong?

The wall is not made of brick.
